Residence Time and Self-cleaning – the Oohs and Aahs of the Die Head |
|
Early in 2001, Kiefel-Extrusion introduced the new KIRION® die concept. This concept was consistent with the highly technical ability and the production oriented know-how of this Brückner-Group owned company.
The trend-setting KIRION® brand, which is widely used by our many customers in Europe and around the world, covers die diameters from 120 mm to 900 mm and from monolayer films up to extremely complex eleven-layer barrier film structures.
The "binary stack" mandrel distributor allows the die to have a very low overall height. In the spiral distributor, the small surface area accounts for short flow channels as well as an even distribution of residence time of the melt. This also contributes considerably to the short purge time of the KIRION® die, which means less transition material and less productions rejects. This ultimately increases machine efficiency. The popularity of this design is increasing for many reasons; one reason in particular is the low cost/throughput ratio that is achieved in normal film production.
Benefits: - low overall height - limited distribution of the flow rate and the shearing profile - short residence time - self cleaning - low drop in pressure - excellent thickness and gauge control tolerances - best possible production tolerance to eliminate the possibility of inter-layer mixing
